Sarah, fret not. It will turn out to be some publicity stunt. Such a thing would've been noticed running wild in NY before now. It's like the black panther that appears to be running among the hills of Scotland.
On reading the articles (because I had no idea what you were talking about. This was new to me.) someone said they were going to write a book about it. I'll be willing to bet it was some movie plasticine/silicone/rubber model of a horror movie beastie.
I mean, in one of the pictures, its hand is showing only its middle finger extended.
